Columbus, OH – Scioto Country Club today announced that its membership has approved a golf course master plan and restoration to begin in late June 2021.
The project will be supervised by golf course architect Andrew Green who recently completed the renovation of Inverness Club in Toledo, OH. Green is currently working on projects at Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, NY and Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, MD.
The golf course at Scioto Country Club was originally constructed in 1916 by Scottish-born Donald Ross. The master plan was designed by Mr. Green as a sympathetic restoration intended to re-capture many of Ross’ original design elements while maintaining its heritage as a major championship venue.
The master plan also addresses Scioto’s aging infrastructure including irrigation, drainage and bunker construction.
Scioto Country Club has hosted six major championships and is one of five courses in the United States to have hosted five different major events including the 1926 U.S. Open (Bobby Jones); 1931 Ryder Cup Matches (USA Victory); 1950 PGA Championship (Chandler Harper); 1968 U.S. Amateur (Bruce Fleisher); 1986 U.S. Senior Open (Dale Douglas) and the 2016 U.S. Senior Open (Gene Sauers).
Scioto Country Club is also the proud childhood home of Jack W. Nicklaus.
