The Southern Ohio PGA confirmed to Cbus Clubhouse today that they are in the finalizing stages with local courses to host Pre-Qualifying and a Monday Qualifier for the new PGA TOUR Workday event at Muirfield Village Golf Club (July 6-12, 2020).

Workday’s event is an “open” tournament according to the PGA TOUR, while The Memorial Tournament Presented by Nationwide is an “invitational” tournament with no open qualifying. Open events can have as many as 156 players in the field, while invitationals hover around 120 players.

The SOPGA believes they will finalize this week which courses in the Columbus area will be used for Pre-Qualifying and Monday Qualifying.

There is no shortage of great options for the TOUR and the Southern Ohio PGA when it comes to golf in Northwest Columbus.

Some early rumors have included Wedgewood, Kinsale and of course next-door neighbor, TCC at Muirfield Village.

Others within just miles include The Club at Tartan Fields, Scioto Reserve, Brookside Golf & CC, Worthington Hills, Golf Club of Dublin and York.

SOPGA Executive Director Patrick Salva had this to say about the prospects of being involved with the PGA TOUR:

“From an organization perspective, we are happy to see the return of the PGA Tour to central Ohio with the hosting of The Memorial and are even more excited about the opportunity to host a second event here in our community. We’re looking forward to playing an elevated role in hosting the Pre-Qualifier and Qualifier and hope to see many of our best Ohio golfers competing for an opportunity to play on the PGA Tour.”

Updates to this story will follow later this week.
